Welcome to the Tea Gardens community engagement portal for the Smart Energy Communities trial and thank you for taking part.

Your community has been chosen as part of the trial to explore the unique nature of a gated community for options to better manage power reliability in a private network.

The Smart Energy Communities trial is about testing a future mode of operation of our network as the energy transition continues to pick up pace.

The trial is designed to answer three main questions:

  • How to maximise the export from rooftop solar and communities into the network
  • How to store that energy in our network, and
  • How to return as much of the value of stored energy in Essential Energy assets to the community who generated it.


The trial is being rolled out in stages. We will be updating this portal with the current stage information as we progress through the trial. We encourage you to get involved in the discussion by asking questions, taking part in short polls, and providing honest feedback through surveys.

  • Proposed Battery​ for Palm Lake Residents

    Hi Palm Lake Resort residents,

    As you may be aware, the tender for a proposed battery at Palm Lake Resort as part of the Smart Energy Communities trial closed on 5th September 2023 and we are now reviewing submissions. With that in mind, we would like to ask you a few questions. Your feedback will be collated and incorporated into our next steps for the trial. We expect this to take a few weeks. Please note that this is just the beginning of the engagement process with you and your community. This map photo shows the proposed sites for the batteries within the Palm Lake Resort.
