Coomba Park Microgrid
Improving reliability for the Coomba Park community
Coomba Park is supplied by a long single powerline, which means the community can be more affected by outages caused by storms, floods, vegetation, bushfire risk or faults on the network. When an outage occurs, crews must first find the fault, make the area safe and complete repairs before power can be fully restored.
What we are doing
Essential Energy is planning a local backup power solution (called a Microgrid) to help reduce the impact of power outages for Coomba Park homes and businesses. It will provide temporary power during some planned or unplanned outages.
The diesel generator will not stop all outages from happening. However, it can help restore power sooner while repair work continues.
The generator can operate for up to 40 hours if required and will be operated by trained personnel.

Improving reliability and safety
The generator is part of a broader plan to improve reliability and reduce risk in Coomba Park. This includes targeted vegetation management, inspections and network improvements to help reduce outages and bushfire risk.
Some vegetation near powerlines may need to be trimmed or removed to improve safety and reliability. You may notice these works starting to take place.
What the community can expect
The generator and equipment will be installed in a secure, locked and fenced area.
When running, nearby residents may notice temporary noise, mild vibration or a slight fuel smell. These impacts would only occur when the generator is operating.
Keeping you informed
Essential Energy will continue to update the Coomba Park community as planning progresses, including details about timing, works, potential impacts and opportunities to ask questions or provide feedback.
Our aim is to provide a practical local solution that improves reliability, supports community safety and helps reduce the impact of future outages.
