Bushfire mitigation projects

Essential Energy is committed to ensuring the electricity network is safe and reliable – as part of this we have a responsibility to manage bushfire risk across the 183,099 kilometres of powerlines we manage in regional and rural NSW.

We have worked with industry leaders, the University of Melbourne to update our bushfire risk modelling and ensure we are doing everything we can to keep the community safe from bushfire risk.

Our updated modelling has highlighted some new sites with increased bushfire risk, and we’re updating our vegetation management processes in these areas to address this risk.

As a result, in some areas we will need to remove more vegetation than we have before – we’re doing this to reduce the risk of bushfires and to protect the community and the environment where bushfire risk is high.

We will consult with all affected stakeholders to minimise the impacts of this proposed change. The full process of inspection through to vegetation treatment, may take several weeks to allow time to work with impacted landholders.

More information is shared in this Fact Sheet or Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on this webpage.

Below is a list of the current sites where our teams will identify and remove any vegetation which may be growing within safety clearances of the electricity network, reducing bushfire risk.
