Revegetation of Southlakes Park

To safely accommodate the new power poles, some vegetation within the existing electricity easement at Southlakes Park needed to be removed. Around 60 trees and shrubs were identified for removal to ensure safe distances are maintained between vegetation and the powerlines.

Over the past 12 months, we have worked closely with the community and other stakeholders to help shape the park’s future landscape. Local residents provided valuable feedback on the selection of new native trees and shrubs, which will be planted in areas away from powerlines. As part of this commitment, 100 native trees and shrubs will be planted to help enhance shade, support local birdlife and improve the park environment.

Community members also helped identify a number of existing trees that may be retained. These trees will be reassessed once construction of the new power poles is complete.
