Pole Mounted EV Chargers
With the increasing number of electric vehicles (EVs) on the road, we are committed to supporting transport electrification within our communities by enabling pole-mounted chargers across our network footprint. In collaboration with our trial partner Electric Future, we are utilising existing power poles throughout New South Wales to install 20 EV chargers across Bathurst Regional Council, Byron Shire Council, Dubbo Regional Council, MidCoast Council, and Tweed Shire Council. These chargers, known as Destination Chargers, range from 7kW to 22kW and are effective for topping up EVs or providing an overnight charge. Depending on the vehicle, users can expect an increase of approximately 40 to 100 km of range per hour of charging.
We have worked with local councils to select suitable site locations and parking designations, and are installing the charging stations between January and March 2025. The chargers use a Type 2 connection, requiring users to bring their own leads and plug into the charger, with activation and payment managed through the Everty app. Running for two years, this trial aims to understand how we can roll out EV chargers to keep pace with EV adoption and help achieve national climate change goals. We seek to learn which types of chargers are best for specific locations, which options are cost-effective, and how regional communities feel about their EV charging infrastructure.
